Over the last few weeks our Web Design Team have been working hard to produce a Website Health Check Report for your Web Manager websites. The aim of these reports is to help you identify what aspects of your online presence need your attention and where you can achieve some quick wins for:
Search Engine Optimisation
User experience / Accessibility
Speed / Performance
Ongoing Maintenance via Web Manager
Many of you will have already received your report which details which elements of your site are:
HEALTHY Your website meets the criteria for this check, you don't need to do anything.
CAN IMPROVE Your website partly met the criteria but making some changes could improve your site.
PRIORITY FIXES These areas may have a critical affect on the health of your website SEO and usability.
If you haven't received your health check yet, don't worry – it is coming soon! Please get in touch if you would like to be fast tracked and we will get onto your site ASAP. If you're not sure whether you have received yours yet, send an email and we will check and resend it to you.
Trends with health checks
During the website health checks we've done so far we've found a few trends. Your individual health checks include information to help you improve these aspects of your websites, below is a brief summary:
Basic Search Engine Ranking fields not optimised
In the majority of sites we have checked, we have found that your page titles and search descriptions need work. Having unique page titles and a search description for each page in your site can make a major difference to how well your website ranks in a Google search. Luckily, it's easy to improve this. If you haven't yet received your health check yet, please visit out help centre.
Non-responsive sites / not mobile friendly
While it's great to see that most of you have updated your websites within the last few years to be responsive, some sites are still not using responsive design technology. Responsive is Googles preferred format for mobile friendly websites, so updating can positively affect your Search Engine Rankings and it can make a huge difference to user experience on your site. Contact us if you would like to discuss options for updating your website.
We've found a significant number of your websites include outdated internet links. These can be caused by website changes or name changes of the sites you are linking to. When we originally set up your website, it's likely we included our default internet links content for you to use. CCH don't maintain this for you, as most firms include their own unique links or remove some of our defaults. If your internet links are out of date or you would like a refresh, we are happy to overwrite your current page with our latest base install for free – view an example.
Another option is to have your internet links page set up into expandable segments. We can implement this on your site with our current base links for just $100.00+GST.
Contact us if you would like us to update your internet links with one of the above options.
What else we're doing to improve your website
As part of the health check we are performing on your website, we will also be adding the following items free of charge, if they do not already exist in your website:
Favicon: This is the small graphical icon that displays in the browser tab next to your page title. With all the popular browsers using tabs this will make your website stand out and easy to identify with multiple tabs open. It's also useful for bookmarking identification.
404 Page: This is the page you are directed to when someone clicks on a hyperlink in your website or via a search engine that has been removed or is broken. The text 'Page not found' is displayed and the page will contain a hyperlink to the website home page, contact page and search function so you can continue browsing the website. The main benefit of a custom 404 page is you can now edit the information on this page and give the user options if they get to an old page that no longer exists.
Font Awesome Icons: if your site includes the Font Awesome Icon set (most of our Pre-designed responsive templates and some customised websites include this feature) we will be updating these to the latest version which will give you access to hundreds more icons to use in your icon based feature areas. Take a look at the older set and the current set here.
